Over several decades I have been active as a record collector and discographer, and also worked as a professional sound archivist and researcher. Some of my published research is available on this site or as books distributed through various publishers. My book on the early history of the record industry in Australia ("Sound Beginnings") was published by Currency Press in 1999. This is available directly from me. Several volumes of my discographical reserach has been published in the U.S. by Greenwood Press. For example, "Brunswick Records, 1916-1931" [in 4 volumes ], "Okeh Records 1918--1934", a discography of female popular vocals of the 1920s & 1930s ("Moanin’ Low"), and a discography of early non-classical piano recordings ("Tantalizing Tingles"). I am still an active collector of 78s and LPs, with particular interests being 1920s jazz, unusual labels, non-European ethnic recordings (especially African, Arabic, Indian, Asian), and 1950s & 1960s female vocalists. I BUY RECORDS WITHIN AUSTRALIA
I’m always interested in older 78s (mainly pre-1940s) or unusual LPs and EPs. I do not want common 1940s & 1950s records such as Bing Crosby or Richard Tauber. If you have a large quantity of records I’m prepared to consider purchasing them as a bulk lot provided the price is right and there are a significant number of items to interest me. I will consider travelling within Australia to pick up large lots if required.
