All items are graded according to standard condition codes, as follows:

78s

E+ -- fine condition with little or no wear and no significant marks or defects
EE+ -- only slightly lesser condition than above
E -- slight visible wear and/or minor superficial marks but no serious defects
V+ -- some obvious wear and scuffs or scratches but no serious defects
VV+ -- significant wear and scratches but will play ok except for surface noise
V -- very worn and scratched (should play ok but will be very noisy)

NOTE that all 78s listed on this site should play well unless there are specific defects mentioned in addition to the general grading. Obviously the more worn discs will have some surface noise and/or a few clicks and pops here and there but they should play fine. I do not list 78s with cracks, chips, digs or other serious defects that will affect play unless this fact is specified.

LPs/EPs/45s

M -- fine condition with little or no wear and no significant marks or defects
NM -- only slightly lesser condition than above
EX -- slight visible wear and/or minor superficial marks but no serious defects
VG -- some obvious wear and scuffs or scratches but no serious defects

In some cases 78 or vinyl gradings have a + or - symbol following the condition code to indicate a slightly better or worse copy than otherwise indicated.

Books

New -- in "as new" condition [appears to have never been read]
Ex -- minor signs of age and/or normal handling but no serious defects
Good -- significant signs of age and/or normal handling and some minor defects

In general I don’t bother listing items that are in poor condition and badly worn or damaged. I have tried to accurately indicate the condition of each item in a way that will allow you to decide if it is suitable for your needs. However, with so many items listed it’s possible I may have missed something and if so I will be glad to offer a refund or credit towards further purchases of all or part of the purchase price (not including shipping costs).
